Day 1

Beijing Airport Transfer:

Arriving in Beijing can be quite the experience, so we will do everything we can to make the transition easy. You'll be met at the hotel by one an English speaking guide who will be on hand to help you with anything you need before you make your way to the car and transfer into the city to your hotel, where you will have the chance to freshen up before continuing your adventure.

Enjoy a welcome dinner where you can start to savor the many flavors of Chinese cuisine, and we’ll discuss an overview of the days to come and get to know your guide a little better.

Day 2

Forbidden City:

Jump into the heart of Beijing by exploring it's rich history with a visit to Tiananmen Square: one of the largest city squares in the world. Tiananmen is a great place for taking photos of the front of the forbidden city, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of China.

Afterwards, we will make our way across the street and enter the legendary Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is the the largest imperial palace in China and served as the throne of power for the reign of 24 emperors throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. With a history dating back approximately 600 years, this colossal palace complex contains 980 buildings within it’s walls. As you make your way through the area, you will be able to appreciate the traditional Chinese palatial architecture that is exemplified all around you.

Beijing Hutong Standard:

Make your way into the Beijing Hutongs, where traditional Beijing life continues to thrive. Wandering through these little streets and alleys, will give you an insight into the traditional lifestyles of not just modern day Beijing, but the Beijing of 20 and 30 years ago.

Day 3

MuTianYu Great Wall:

Travel to one of the Wonders of the World: The Great Wall of China. Early in the morning, we will make our way outside the city to the Mutianyu Great Wall (round-trip cable car included). Enjoy a spectacular view of the Beijing countryside at one of the most beautiful sections of the Beijing Great Wall. As you walk on top of the wall, you can't help but marvel at the manpower required to have build such an incredible structure. First built in the 6th century AD to ward off the northern nomads and consolidated in the 14th century, the Mutianyu section was historically an important strategic pass and now stands as one of the best preserved sections of the Great Wall. We'll take the cable car to the top of the wall so that you can leisurely explore this magnificent work of humanity.

Peking Duck Dinner:

No visit to Beijing is complete without trying one of the cities most famous dishes: The Peking Duck. This mouthwatering slow cooked duck is bound to delight your tastebuds alongside a variety of other local delicacies.

Beijing Airport Transfer:

Fly from Beijing to Chengdu:

Journey deep into the heart of China. Far from the coasts, Chengdu has developed more slowly than Beijing and Shanghai, and has managed to retain much of it’s traditional ways. Known as The Home of the Panda and The Portal to Tibet, you will instantly see that the city's personality shine.

People's Park:

Head to people's park to enjoy one of Chengdu's most interesting spots. Filled with locals that flaunt the local "laid back" lifestyle, you'll have a chance to see a large variety of activities you wander through the park seeing people dancing, singing, playing mahjong over tea, and if you're lucky you'll catch the impromptu red-carpet fashion show. Surrounded by this lively environment, you'll have a chance to sit and enjoy some traditional Chinese tea as you people watch from your comfortable bamboo seat.

Jinli Street:

Enjoy a guided tour of Jinli street as the evening comes to a close. The beautiful combination of multi-colored lanterns and a lively atmosphere make this one of the most popular places in the city for an evening stroll. As you walk along the street, you'll have a chance to enjoy a selection of local snacks from the famous snack food market there.

Panda's and Heishui

Day 5

Panda Breeding Center:

What the Great Wall is to Beijing, Pandas are to Chengdu. We begin the day by making our way to the Panda reserve to see China’s treasured creatures in the morning when they are most active. Enjoy seeing these cute black and white creatures frolicking with each other before wandering to the red panda enclosure where you will be able to see this playful creature up close. 

Sichuan to Heishui:

Head into the Chinese countryside to experience a truly rural China. The 6 hour drive to Heishui is an incredible journey lined by amazing landscapes as we drive along. You’ll see a variety of architectural styles as we pass different regions with different minorities. At this point, you may start getting an idea of the diversity within China. Stopping for lunch in one of these towns, you’ll also have a bit of time to explore and take photos of the area before we continue to our destination.

Day 6

Dagu Glacier National Park:

Explore one of China’s youngest national parks: The Dagu Glacier National Park. This incredible park is not only a great example of traditions balanced with nature, but it is also a shining example of China’s modernity, as it features the highest cable car in the world. Taking you to 4860 meters in altitude, you’ll feel as if you are at the top of the world as you overlook this beautiful glacier and it’s surrounding mountains.

Heading back down, we’ll stop at a variety of sites and have the chance to explore local Tibetan villages as we wander through the park. You’ll learn a little about local customs and traditions, while enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds you.

HeiShui Villages:

Make your way to small mountain villages and amazing temple complexes in the Heishui area so that you can continue to experience the local culture. As you walk amongst these mountain farms, you’ll have a better sense of the local lifestyle, particularly looking at how villagers interact with the nearby cities and towns.

Heishui Temple:

Visit the recently built temple in Heishui. Locals claim it to be the largest Tibetan Temple complex outside of Lhasa, and as you wander the grounds, you will be amazed by the sense of serenity imparted by the structures as they stand surrounded by majestic peaks all around.

Day 8

Heishui to Chengdu:

After having experienced the beauty of Heishui, we depart and head back towards the city of Chengdu to experience more of the laid back lifestyle there. On the way back, you'll see many of the same views, and we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Chengdu Hotpot Dinner:

An adventure in food! Today's dinner offers you an exciting experience renowned all throughout China: The Sichuan Hotpot. Although traditionally spicy, you can also get it mild or mixed with different types of "pots". You'll have a blast cooking your own food (with your guide's help, of course) as you experience the favorite meal of the Chengdunese.

The Sichuan Opera:

This evening you will enjoy one of Chengdu's most unique forms of art: the Sichuan Opera. A variety show filled with different kinds of acts ranging from traditional music, acrobatics, fire breathing, and the world famous "Changing Faces", this show is sure to amaze you as you as you further explore Sichuanese culture.

The French Concession:

Enjoy a walking tour of the French Concession, a neighborhood that exemplifies Shanghai’s diverse growth and it's colonial past. As you wander the semi-european styled streets, you’ll have a clear view into Shanghai's past. This window to a life that is disappearing will help give you insight into the lives of the local people, as well as providing some amazing historical perspective of a China that few people think of.

Shanghai World Financial Center:

Head to the home of the giants and the financial heart of Shanghai, Pudong, where you will stand amongst an amazing array of skyscrapers, so that you can experience amazing views from the 100th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center. Looking down at the sprawling city of Shanghai as you walk through a unique, glass bottomed observation deck (the glass areas are easily avoidable for those who are nervous about those things) for a truly an unforgettable experience. 

The Bund:

We make our way to The Bund and it’s incredible views of Shanghai’s financial district. This iconic view of Shanghai is not to be missed and experienced, as the future quite literally faces the past on each side of the river.
